Destin is one of the hidden gems in northwest Florida. The white sand beach will melt your heart and make you fall in love with this area from the first sight.
As soon as we arrived, we went straight to the Harbor Walk Village. This place has multiple restaurants, shops, art displays, birds to feed and of course the view! The first restaurant had a happy hour special and that’s where
we went – Crab Island Cantina (2 Harbor Blvd #100 Destin, Florida 850.424.7417)
My choice of food was Cocktail De Camaron ~ Shrimp Cocktail. Plump juicy shrimp cooked in freshly squeezed lime juice, mixed with cilantro, tomato, avacado, cucumber, red onion and fresh jalapeno, served with corn tortilla chips for only $5! For that price you can afford to have two.
I don’t eat chips but those are perfect to feed the birds. After 5 minutes I had the whole family of birds hanging out and watching the sunset with us.
Another reason why I fell in love with the Crab Island Cantina is because they have the coolest couch in the restroom. It was classy and authentic. Ladies, go see it for yourself!
The view is great but what if you do not have a boat but do want to take a ride around the beach area? We met the coolest boat captain that has a small business called Water Taxi. For 10$ each he will pick you up, take you around water, drop you off at the crab island and pick you back up when you are done. This was a great experience with a breathtaking view with the right price tag! Water Taxi signs are everywhere but just in case: call Captain Lucky 850-714-3422.
Destin doesn’t have too many public beaches because the area is gorgeous, rich and famous buy out properties. You best options are: James Lee Park (3510 Scenic Hwy 98 Destin, FL 32541) or Henderson Beach State Park (17000 Emerald Coast Pkwy Destin, FL 32541.)
Our lodging took place in Tops’L Beach and Racquet Resort – 9011 Hwy 98 West, Destin, FL 32541. Most of them have 2 bedroom condos and you can easily split the cost among the group. This is a gated community with a huge gym, pool, Jacuzzi, bar and of course the view.
It is located in the Sandestin area right next to the well-known Hilton Resort and of course the Village of Baytowne Wharf.
Stay tuned for the next post as we go exploring Baytowne Wharf for the best food and the most fun!
