Staying fit and eating healthy in Savannah, Georgia

Staying fit and eating healthy while touring historical Savannah, Georgia

It is not a secret that Savannah, Georgia has been rated by multiple travel magazines and websites as a top friendly and happy city in the US. This was one of the weekends when I needed to recharge mind and connect with my inner self. Several years ago, Savannah stole my heart and I wanted to revisit this magical place.
To be budget friendly, I booked a hotel near the airport. My priority this time was: large gym, inside swimming pool and a hot tub and of course free parking. I believe that all the hotels should have free parking and paying for valet is crazy!
After reading reviews and viewing photos, I found a winner: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Savannah Airport (50 Yvette J. Hagins Drive, Savannah, Georgia). Check in was fast and front desk lady was polite. After I dropped off my suitcase, I wanted to see the gym and pool with my own eyes. Huge plus for large mirrors, space and all the equipment needed for a great workout. This included: weights, yoga mats, medicine balls, steppers and stability ball. I definitely had a great time and burned 700 calories. Whoop!

For breakfast my local friends suggested: J Christopher’s. (122 E Liberty St, Savannah GA 31401 (912) 236-7494). They suggested to go early because the place is very popular and it takes about 40 minutes to stand in line. The food was absolutely delicious, I went back the next day. On a Saturday, the wait was about 45 minutes but on a Sunday we walked right in and were seated immediately.

Savannah is a walking city and we literally walked everywhere. Burning all the breakfast calories was not a problem at all. We covered majority of the famous landmarks while breathing in the fresh air and just tuning in to positive energy.

At night, we visited a delicious organic restaurant/pub called Green Truck Neighborhood Pub (2430 Habersham Street Savannah, GA 31401). My mouth is still watering as I think about that wonderful place. They serve grass-fed all-natural beef, grilled free-range chicken or homemade veggie patty. All their vegetables are locally grown. You can taste they real food and we just felt so energized after. My choice of meal was burgerEl Jefe which came with black bean and corn salsa, avocado and jalapenos. I apologize for the blurry photo but I was starving and couldn’t wait to retake another picture.
